America's Choice for Today's Business

Much has changed since the last time we communicated.

There was a credit freeze (which reports suggest is thawing), a dramatic decline in real estate values, a stock market that briefly showed a positive annual return after declining a significant amount, adjustment to numerous policies proposed by the new administration, bankruptcy filings by major US corporations, a spike in gasoline prices, and an increase in unemployment.

Most small business owners have been impacted as well. With some exception, many see a decline in their top-line revenue. Those experiencing such a decline are perhaps funding their operations by early distributions from retirement plans, using what may be left in their home equity line of credit, credit card advances, and investment account/savings’ withdrawals.

Simply put, one could argue that most of the country is not only in a credit crunch – but in a cash crunch! For many, these events have come when retirement is desired – or certainly when a more upbeat time was likely anticipated.

It appears that the events of the past 2 years have produced little to cheer about. There are, however, some encouraging signs.

What are the positives for such events?

For one, the small business owner who is considering selling their business has a large pool of potential buyers available. The buyers are well-educated, have strong business backgrounds, are seeking alternative employment, and are enthusiastic about owning their own business – perhaps your business.

Many of the now unemployed are a result of corporate layoffs and downsizing and it is quite probable that they have been doing a lot of soul-searching. Many received severance packages or were in high-power positions where they were able to save substantial amounts of cash. They are looking for work. They understand that they may have to buy their next job. They need your help with a transition.

If owning and operating your current business has lost its luster and you are considering having your firm presented to a wide audience, this may be one of the most opportune times of recent history to attract strong buyers.

Parker Briggs Business Group has the tools and the knowhow to get buyers to you.
